TGC (The Garden Classroom) is seeking a Head of Fundraising

21-35 hours a week 44/52 week contract depending on candidate

Start date: September / October 2022 in Islington, London

Are you an enthusiastic fundraiser with great writing and communication skills? Do you enjoy a varied role building creative fundraising programmes and partnerships? Do you enjoy working as part of a team? Are you a nature enthusiast?

About us

TGC is a small, multi-award winning charity, based in Islington. We provide our community (children and adults) with transformative outdoor experiences to encourage active lifestyles, promote self-discovery, inspire growth and stimulate respect for nature.

We have a wonderful and dynamic team of staff, contractors and volunteers supported by a diverse board of eight Trustees.

About the role

This is a new role for us. TGC has been growing steadily and we are now looking for a Head of Fundraising as we enter our next exciting phase of growth and development.

Our fundraising income predominantly comes from trusts and foundations. You will lead in developing engaging, persuasive trust and foundation applications and communicating our strategic ambitions, working closely with the CEO, Programme Directors and Finance Manager.

You will manage a portfolio of trust and foundation accounts, working to deliver long term partnerships and significant renewals, as well as researching new opportunities with trusts and foundations.

You will also lead on developing this new department for the charity, developing new funding streams – including building relationships with local companies, and developing an individual donor base.

You will provide appropriate supporter communication and fundraising strategies with the view to producing appeals, and managing relations with individual supporters and corporate partners. An additional skill would be generating income from high-wealth individuals.

As this is such a key role for TGC you will also attend Trustee meetings and produce reports and updates for the board. There is also the potential to grow the fundraising team over time.

About you

We are open to whether you are an established fundraising head, or if you are looking to take the next step in your fundraising career.

Mostly, you will have experience in either developing and delivering funding applications, or/and of community fundraising and developing individual supporter programmes.

You are able to write engaging and compelling content for different audiences, work with budgets and be confident in making fundraising approaches.

You will have experience of working to and achieving fundraising targets, with an organised and efficient approach. You are a good team player, with strong interpersonal skills, and can engage with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

What we offer

We offer very flexible working - this can be a full time or a part or full time role, 3 or - 5 days a week. We also offer the flexibility to work a 44 or 52 week year, with a gross 52 week salary of £38,000 (pro-rata).

We offer a Nest pension and 20 days holiday {depending on whether you work a 44 or 52 week year} plus 8 bank holidays. TGC currently has a small office on Newington Green, Islington N1 4RF, and you have the flexibility to work from there on Mondays, Thursdays or Fridays or from home.  Tuesdays are an important availability day to liaise with the senior level team.
