Countryside

TGC runs a programme of school residentials and day visits to beautiful countryside locations within easy reach of London.

Our countryside experiences focus on nature connection, Forest School activities, wellbeing, resilience-building, cooking, and holistic child development.

The TGC Countryside Programme is managed by Millie Darling (Countryside Manager) and Richard Skrein (Countryside Director). We work with a team of highly-skilled freelance Forest School practitioners to deliver our programmes, and operate with a Trauma-Informed Approach informed by accredited cognitive behavioural therapist Kati Taunt.

If you would like to find out about your school attending a countryside residential or day visit email Millie at millie@thegardenclassroom.org.uk.

Research from Learning Away shows that the long-term benefits of residentials include:

  • Improved achievement, progress and attainment
  • Improved knowledge, skills and understanding
  • Improved relationships
  • Improved engagement
  • Improved behaviour and attendance
  • More successful transition experiences (at all key stages)
  • Raised aspirations
  • Greater cohesion and a sense of belonging
